Hardest Workouts Out There

victim's own ability

The agriculture is one of the industries with the highest productivity gains. Given the favorable food happy consumers, farmers are certainly nothing like this. They are victims of their own ability. More and higher production rates and ever lower prices, they capture in a downward spiral.
your escape is difficult. Restrictions on production, as called for milk, are not very realistic. The production of bioenergy and industrial raw materials from crops and wood is just enough not to let the prices slide further. And the niche in which you want the farmers to take off with a special quality, with emphasis on regionality and environmentally friendly production in the markets remain just only for a few niches. Even when there is price pressure bioproducts.

the key to the farmers from the vicious circle and bring out the sometimes stop with crocodile tears wept for structural change, others in the hand - both retailers and consumers. They want but does not generally pay prices that need the farmers - which prevents them but not to mock Turbo cows.

farmers stick caught in the downward spiral

The performance gains are enormous. The farmers are therefore rationalize away themselves.

HANS GMEINER Salzburg (SN). The number of dairy farmers has decreased in Austria over the past 20 years from around 90,000 to some 38,000, the number of farmers went right by 100,000
back to 38,000 and also the number of farmers shrank from 270,000 to a total of less than 150,000. And yet nothing is missing. Austria's farmers produce more than ever before.
are behind in Austria, despite the relatively modest production methods huge performance gains in the fields and in the stables. But because the offset of the low prices and higher costs, farmers have little of it. This, however, farmers are caught up in a downward spiral. Given the pressure on the markets and the lack of attractive alternatives is usually the farmers no choice but to produce as cheaply as possible and to use every opportunity "progress. This, however, progress for them is itself a threat. Because the farmers are really rationalize away themselves. For many, the air
despite the performance gains too thin and they have to give up.

"Twenty years ago, was a good Stable cutting at 5000 liters of milk per cow per year, "said Lukas Kalcher of the Association of the cattle breeders. "Today, 7500-8000 liters and are still more than good." This is confirmed by the numbers from the Green Report of the Agriculture Ministry. For the year 1990 is called there for an average cow from a local stable a years supply capacity of 3791 kilograms. 2009 this number was higher by 60 percent: 6068 liters delivered as a cow on average. Not quite as big

, but still significant is the progress in meat production. 30 years ago, agriculture students like Hans Schlederer, now CEO of the Austrian Pork market, which placed 200-day fattening pig as the ultimate goal. "Today is a hog after 180 days of life is ready for slaughter." A sow today takes on average 22 piglets per year in the world 20 years ago was there 15th

Also in the grain, the growth rates were in the past two decades, from traditional crops such as wheat, barley or rye, 15 to 30 percent. Determined there but increasingly the economic interest in fruit breeding progress. "There Where money is invested, it is the biggest jumps," said Karl Fischer, head of the Saatbau Linz. Currently, the rape, maize and soya.

The performance gains have many causes. "The pigs are primarily the improved animal genetics and progress in feeding responsible," says Schlederer. Play an important role in all areas of the refined and much more precise production technology, improved hygiene and the training of farmers. In all divisions moved other breeding objectives such as animal and plant health and pest resistance in the foreground. And also the quality. "The greatly improved in recent years," said Schlederer.

At the end, the development is not yet long. Where is the journey, showing the best cow in Austria. "Beauty" is her name, is on a farm in Ardagger (LA) and delivered in 2010 almost 19,000 kilograms of milk. On good days there are already 80 liters of milk from the udder.

Find: cool wool sheep

Is not that great, I've found today and wanted to hide from you in any case :-)

Clitoral Hood Piercing

beaded stars

The holiday season is drawing to a close.
As for us, the snow has extremely long, and I therefore do not always come out the door and got I have my "latest" hobby dedicated, and made of little beads stars, angels and Santa Clauses. Totally clueless
I'm gone, thanks to a great Geburtstagspäckle from my exchange group, (cuddly thanks again to Josie) to it.
And believe me! I never thought it possible that these parts sooooooooo long time until they are finished.
Although I have, during my last rehab in Sankt Peter-Ording, even wrote a tiny beads animal. The
2 whole afternoons lasted until it finally was finished to my satisfaction.
would have liked the part I threw out the window, the whole thing was so annoying.
And now?
Now I sit again at this Piddelsarbeit and it gives me also great fun. Today as I was
in our store in Heath and I have 4 individual Christmas balls gekauft.Von small to large.
What? Well, my idea is to decorate with a pretty simple balls pearl star.
Thus, each with its Christmas decorations still adorn small unique pieces.
For each size, I will tinker little star, which are then placed on individual spheres.

From my first stars and angels I have is quite clear already given away a lot.
The joy of the recipient was also a great pleasure. Is not it, dear dear Harald and Karin?! Karin
provided once again that I get new supplies beads, I have probably infected with the fever in my beads search flea markets. :-)
And she is always happy when she has a little "get hold".
On our last visit there, I got a lot of her fabric pieces with pearls, which she had cut off of sweaters and T-shirts.
It was just the beads, which I could do so well.

Also, instead of a bouquet, while visiting friends, were not about the big star Anklang.Oder, love and Erika Wolf?! Erika
I know and respect in the rehab clinic in SPO and was gelernt.Sie for me with the chain of fever infected.

And Josie was of course the very first star. I believe that I still do not quite so successful
:-) But yes practice makes perfect.

Here are some of my "works":

The arms of the star can be , depending on the desired shape, narrow or wide, as all parts were working with silver wire. Of course, the same goes for the Angels.

Why Do Coughs Taste Like Blood?

Save the old German chicken!

After a somewhat lengthy blog break (it was just too much to do before Christmas) we will get back with a request:

Save the old German Wanted chicken!

Do you know the "old German wool chicken (Gallus Gallus vetus germanicus lana)?
Nope, no wonder, for it was almost extinct and the population could recover thanks only to a qualified herbalist. To discover the best chance of one of those still very rare chickens, has one in April or May on forest edges or clearings. Or, of course with us, because we have a big heart for rare chickens, as you know already ;-) We are namely in the snowy woods one of these cuddly wool chicken encounters we have with us invited, it still asked to bring a few mates and a lot of time. It will make them a few days later eingetrudelt with us and told us her sad fate appear.
The story we have written down from oral tradition, some chickens, the records of the qualified herbalist and historical facts and turn right and done and they produced a little booklet. On the cover you see a real old German chicken wool in natural habitat (winter - in the woolly feathers).

This time the photo of the old German wool chicken (Gallus Gallus vetus germanicus lana) :

There is also a portrait of cotton sewn plush, filled with woodruff. As you can see we are already perfect in the simulated lifelike portraits, photo compares times and mass chicken! :-).

here our fabric chicken:

And why all this? The old German wool chicken is, as I said, still very very rare and we want to put it on the "red list" of endangered animals. But this old breed and its history must be known. Because believe it or not, but even among scientists, it is almost forgotten, in fact we only know it yet .... So the story buys chicken, she says, and continues:

Save the old German wool chicken !

And here can support their action :-)

"existence of rural culture at stake,"

Agriculture is seen as the future industry, but farmers do not know how far. Three books show backgrounds.

HANS GMEINER Salzburg (SN). The peasants could hardly find good in the world. And even though much money is put into agriculture, and although the production of cereals, milk and meat is one of the most attractive sectors of the future.

around the globe suffer from peasants at low prices, under Cheap imports and high market pressure. Stopped production of cheap, often in the environmental and socio-political consequences play no role, they are heavily on the international markets against their will each other's lives. Long peasant death is a term that is known everywhere. Within a few decades, the centuries developed structures come under extreme pressure and shattered in many places.

understand why this is so long ago no one. The farmers are struggling in this environment to cope with its ever-changing demands and requirements, with its political twists and changing requirements in rapid succession. "It is not even better agriculture, times worse, as it always did, "the dairy farmer Allgäuer Romuald Schaber writes in his book" Blood Milk. "Today, the existence of peasant culture is totally on the game."

scraper is to keep the founder and president of the United States Milkboard (EMB), that some 100,000 dairy farmers from across Europe, the Brussels over again with their demos in respiratory and their situation to draw attention. He is a farmer, as he stands in the book. With 40 cows, he is not amongst the small farmers. Clear, unpretentious and unpretentious, he lays out the perspective of a dairy farmer and things are so open connections, the outsiders are only rarely seen - The attachment to tradition and nature, the problems with the political representation of farmers and corporations.

scraper book is not the only one of these days has been released and provides guidance to the headline-grabbing, and sometimes hotly debated topic of agriculture. The Styrian peasant Hubmann Toni (Toni's free-range eggs ") traces how he managed to open up with good marketing and a focus on welfare for at least several hundred small farmers a production niche. What he experienced while with competition, trade, politics and administration in Austria's agricultural microcosm, explains some of the developments. Meanwhile, the agricultural expert as advisor worked for the SPÖ. Hubmann calls: ". Who wants to strengthen the farmers must strengthen the diversity

can do just that contribute significantly to consumers, is the Vienna business journalist Paul Trummer. Based on the ingredients for a salami pizza, it offers insights into the relationships of the international agriculture. He visited factories and farmers, talked to politicians and business leaders around the world. His conclusion: "A surprising number of problems are not dependent on weather and soil, but from politics." And: "In the production now often dominated the search for the lowest cost, because we consumers want above all else: cheap Everytime. The fact that we are taking a spiral in motion that often goes around the world at the expense of man and nature, we hardly aware "

Romuald Schaber:" Blood Milk - As farmers struggle to survive. "Pattloch, Munich Toni Hubmann:" How we can look forward to good food, farms are not factories, and what needs to change it, "Echo Media, Vienna Paul Trummer:" global pizza - a favorite food in the Global Economy ", Econ, Berlin

farmers despite increase further during the crisis

HANS GMEINER Salzburg (SN). After two years with strong income declines, which made close to last year even the 30 percent mark to the farmers this year, but again not on-breath, at least. According to an estimate by Statistics Austria this year laid the income by 12.4 percent.

This was due mainly to higher prices for arable crops and milk. In these sectors, the farmers have suffered in recent years, most from the price decline. Accordingly, this year had a strong trend reversal from the price front. Depending on the type of cereal, there was an increase of up to 70 percent. The price of milk rose by more than ten percent.

The farmers were the higher prices this year, though not fully utilized. A poor grain harvest in the major Fruit slowed down the hopes of a faster recovery of the income. Overall, the cereal and maize harvest was 4.5 million tonnes by 6.5 percent below the level of the previous year. This decline was not offset by higher rapeseed and soybean crops (plus 7.2 percent).

could only dream of growth last year, the meat producers. There was the price level down. The pig farmer and cattle-ne-so this year not to include the winners. The

can not for this year expected increase in income disguise the fact that agriculture remains the crisis of the past three years has not overcome. The income in 2009 is the four-worst the past ten years and not more real than it was in 2001. The bad news for Austria's farmers, in many other EU countries, the income reported to have risen this year to much more.

Agriculture Minister Niki Berlakovich (ÖVP) shows, given the estimate by Statistics Austria relieved and reclaimed a portion of the income turning point for policy. "Through measures such as intervention, storage and export refunds, the market has stabilized."

"I can be crabby"

Erna Feldhofer is at the top of some 4000 "Milk rebels" - in a man's world.

HANS GMEINERSalzburg (SN). Styrian mountain farmer from Erna Feldhofer Birkfeld follows the sometimes loud Mühlviertler Ewald Grünzweil as head of the IG-Milch. Feldhofer is thus now at the top of some 4000 "Milk rebels" who in recent years, with demonstrations and delivery strike drew attention to the situation of dairy farmers and an "A fair milk" and the "Free Milk Austria" try to show alternatives. "I'm from the start," she says. "Finally, I will not hold that against me later by the three children have to have anything done about the decline of agriculture. "
The 40-year-old Feldhofer, which farms with her husband, a 40-cow operation with 300,000 kg year delivery right in Austria's agricultural micro-cosmos, the only woman in such a top position. In Europe it is one of two. "I have a colleague in Holland."
In the rough world of men IG-Milch, who was previously in the fight for better milk prices for dairy farmers to trade and politics sometimes inexorably, it brings new sounds. "I am a person in need of harmony," she says. "A man comes to radical, a woman does it with different words." Postscript: "I can also be prickly."
Feldhofer wants the IG milk, as its goals to continue. It is pushing for regulation of markets and stands up against the waiver of delivery quotas.
a milk delivery strike is currently not an issue for them. "I do not feel that we now need one." Instead, it wants to expand the information of the members and see the policy emphasis on the finger.
Thither of course they only have to find the right wire. After several violent skirmishes the relationship with the peaks of the Chamber of Agriculture and Farmers' Union is disturbed. "But I will come back to talk with them."
Coming into the foreground, they also want the projects "A fair milk" and "Free milk Austria", in whose founding the IG's milk served as inspiration. Since the "Fair Milk," which is available still for the price of 1.19 € per liter, at savings no longer belongs to the regular range, it is weakening.
With the "Free Milk Austria", however, who sold their milk on the open market, it is good. "320 farmers provide annually 44 million kilograms." Fact that it was the "free milk" around the farm milk price a secret makes defending them. "Whether the price is above or below the prices of dairies, one would .. Us break in any case "
only so much she says:" The price is compared to the dairies in the top third "

fuel for the round tables

Agriculture Commissioner Ciolos provides the farmers with its reform proposals on agricultural policy with difficult problems. In focus: The alignment of the premiums.

HANS GMEINER Salzburg (SN). Facilitates the local agrarians were after the first analysis of the proposals on EU agricultural reform. Dynamite there are still enough. The focus is on eliminating differences in the premium rights of the farmers, the future shape of agricultural environmental programs and the establishment of other areas, for which there is special support - not to mention the fact that is completely open from the current perspective, how much money is in the future for the EU agricultural policy and individual measures are.

are at the single payment equal to two or changes to the house. First, the agriculture commissioner wants the premiums converge across the EU. This Austrian farmers have relatively good cards, because their average premiums per hectare in total within the EU only be in the midfield. In other ways, but also in Austria itself to an approximation. And that is tricky. The Distribution of the so-called single payment that is paid for by Brussels, takes place in Austria to the historical model and is based more on the relations of production at the beginning of the decade. This conflict inequalities. These range from an average of 137 euros per hectare in the district of St. Johann im Pongau up to 325 € per hectare in agricultural areas, or even 366 in the Schwaz district of Tyrol, with its intensive milk production.

De facto, however, the differences are not so serious. Through the funds, reaping the local farmers from voluntary participation in environmental programs, and by the mountain farmers, the subsidies for individual farmers are highly aligned, It remains in hectares as the benchmark. Examples in the Green Report shows that the public funds, the farmers get per hectare in total, in all operating sectors, company sizes and production areas in the range 500-700 € per hectare are. Only the organic farmers are significantly higher.

are however grave the political battles long since started. The ÖVP-farmers' representatives are opposed to a uniform premium for all of Austria and will possibly be reconciled. The Social Democratic Party insists on such a massive redistribution and will insert the number of workers on a farm as a criterion for the award.

The redesign will Winners and losers. The trend is foreseeable that the money will flow toward more grassland areas. Losses have to be expected, especially farmers, or farmers who benefited from the historical model especially, such as bull farmer.

is against that background that the future development of purely Austrian environmental programs, a special place. What Ciolos presented, the local farmers makes skeptical. Measures such as compliance with certain rotations or planting of the fields in winter, which could fatten up the farmers so far their incomes will in future be part of the Brussels farm payment. How and by what measures still in the future environmental funds for Austrian farmers can be secured, is still unclear.

It is also unclear what is valid in future as a mining area or disadvantaged area. Would that be could wish for the Agricultural Commissioner, should above all, many farmers in the transitional zones are afraid for their additional funding. The local agrarians calm but for now: "That's not eaten."
